About Judy
I have had the pleasure and the honor to work as a counsellor for more than 20 years. What I want you to know first and foremost is that my work comes from the heart and that I care. My focus is on you and your growth. This is always the most important thing. I also want you to know that I am experienced and well qualified to do what I do. I have a masters degree in counselling psychology and I am a member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Please allow me to tell you more about myself.
People and their lives have always been the primary interest in my life.
My original training was as a teacher. After working and traveling, I
married and settled down to raise 3 children. During this time, I taught
yoga and meditation, dream analysis and intuitive development. All of my
teaching turned into counselling of some kind and my yoga classes became
body work. The nature of these classes was very personal and focused on
growth. People trusted me and wanted to work with me one on one, and so I
began a small counselling practice in 1985. I returned to school and in
1991 received my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Antioch
University in Seattle. As part of my program, I did a 9 month internship
at an agency called Share working primarily with family, dependency and
co-dependency issues. After I graduated, I worked part time for 2 years as
an alcohol and drug counsellor while I built my private practice. In two
years I was able to leave the agency and concentrated my entire energy in
my practice. There I dealt primarily with depression, anxiety, couples’
counseling, eating disorders, addictions, low self-esteem, and issues of
abuse, particularly sexual.
I value and respect the unique nature of each individual. To connect with each person and to effect change in their particular situation, calls for different approaches and different tools. Each year I expand and upgrade my skills to meet the needs of the people that I work with. I integrate Gestalt techniques, Reichian body work, cognitive therapy, Integrative Body Psychotherapy tools, some Jungian principles, dream analysis, art therapy, and coaching into my work among other things. I am fully trained in EMDR, Bodynamics anf hypnotherapy.
What I also want you to know is that therapy has been instrumental in my
own life. I have worked diligently over the last 15 years with different
forms of therapy to create a loving relationship with myself and a healthy
relationship with things outside of myself, and I continue to work on
this. I have great respect for this journey. I know how much it helped me
and I feel that it can help you, too.
