Would Therapy Be
Helpful? At other times, people have a problem or a situation
that has been troubling them for some time. They have tried to change it,
but have not been successful. The problem may be an emotion that takes
over like anger, anxiety, depression or grief. The problem could be a
traumatic past event that they have not been able to move past. An
addiction to food, spending or sex could become unmanageable. An important
relationship could be in danger or collapse. These are times to consider
therapy. In some situations, a person finally acknowledges
that life has been very painful for a long time. They don’t seem to be
able to get their needs met like other people. Nothing goes well for them.
Life may be filled with conflict, isolation, fear or addiction. Their
relationship with themselves is painful. In one way or another they
sabotage themselves continually. They act out in ways that they cannot
control. They have had suicidal thoughts or perhaps have even attempted.
This is a time to consider therapy. I work with people everyday who have these kinds of
problems. Over the years I have become well acquainted with many of them.
